DVD long filenames on linux

More problems with my DVD burner. My main reader on reality cannot read the burnt DVD, though three other drives read it just fine. Problem is on linux, the drive shows 8.3 filenames instead of long filenames. There are two issues:
  1. /etc/fstab should use "auto" instead of "udf,iso9960" for the filesystem type. See for example https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/util-linux/+bug/44233
  2. When you mount as udf, the directories do not have execute permission. See for example https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/util-linux/+bug/10550
As far as I know, there is NO solution for problem 2. You must become root to read the files.

Windows 98 + ME *still* alive campaign

Ran across this web site. I still use 98SE, and I gotta say it serves me well for home use.
